India is a land of festivals and fairs. It seems like every day there is a festival celebrated in one part of the country or the other. India is home to a variety of religions and a land steeped in tradition, where people celebrate more than one religion and find harmony in this immense cultural diversity. Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, and Islam are the dominant religions that are prevalent.

Celebrating festivals is the time to meet family and friends, a time to forget everything else and join hands to become part of the celebration. There are many different types of festivals some welcome the seasons of the year, from the harvest, to the rains, to the full moon. Religious celebrations are plentiful from birthdays of divine beings, to the triumph of good over evil, which family and relationships hold dear and are celebrated in jubilation.

The sights of many festivals bring about bright colors, illuminated houses, dancing and music, depicting regional differences coupled with India’s unwavering enthusiasm. Outfitted with traditional dresses, consuming sweets, and elaborate meals with family, friends, and sharing with the poor, is a part of the customs. Prayers, religious ceremonies, processions, and adorned temples convey the spirituality of multiple festivities.

The concept of universal brotherhood encompasses all the festivals and the people of India’s warm hospitality and infectious spirit attract people from all over the world to take part in the fairs and festivals.
